The 71st APEC Energy Working Group Meeting (EWG 71) was successfully held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province from March 18 to 19, 2026. The meeting was hosted by the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China, and marked the first key energy-sector meeting under the 2026 APEC “China Year.” Mr. He Yang, Deputy Administrator of the NEA, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Approximately 90 delegates from APEC member economies, the APEC Secretariat, relevant international organizations, energy enterprises, and academic institutions, participated in the meeting.

Under the overarching theme of APEC 2026 “Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together,” China put forward the thematic vision for energy cooperation: “Forge an Innovative and Synergistic Asia-Pacific Energy Community for All,” and identified three priorities: Energy for All, AI+Energy, Synergetic Cooperation.

During the meeting, delegates from various member economies shared updates on their respective energy policies and latest developments, and were briefed on the work reports from relevant research centers, expert groups, and task force, as well as progress on related initiatives. China presented a framework for proposed energy deliverables under the 2026 APEC “China Year,” which encompasses a joint energy ministerial statement and thematic outcomes. Centered on the proposed deliverable framework, delegates held in-depth discussions and candid exchanges of views, laying a solid foundation for building consensus on energy cooperation under China's APEC host year.

China will continue to deepen practical energy cooperation with all APEC member economies, advance the implementation of the proposed deliverables, and welcome the delegates to attend the 16th APEC Energy Minister Meeting and the 72nd EWG Meeting to be held in Beijing this September.
