Since joining APEC in 1991, China has actively and deeply participated in APEC cooperation, and plays an important and constructive role in advancing APEC cooperation process.
From 1993 to 2025, the Chinese President attended all the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM). From 31 October to 1 November 2025, President Xi Jinping attended the 32nd AELM in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, and delivered important remarks. President Xi Jinping also delivered a written address to the APEC CEO Summit.
To date, China has successfully hosted the AELM twice, namely the 9th AELM in Shanghai on 20-21 October 2001, and the 22nd AELM in Beijing on 10–11 November 2014.
On 16 November 2024, President Xi Jinping announced at the 31st AELM that China would host APEC 2026, expressing anticipation to work with all parties to deepen Asia-Pacific cooperation to the benefit of the peoples in the region.
On 1 November 2025, President Xi Jinping attended the handover ceremony of the 32nd AELM and announced that China would host the 33rd AELM in Shenzhen of Guangdong Province, in November 2026.

The host city Shenzhen is known as the City of Peng, which is a legendary creature that begins as a giant fish and transforms into a colossal bird, soaring across the sky. The design of the logo, with 21 feathers seamlessly interwoven, draws inspiration from Peng. Each feather is distinct, yet together they form the shape of Peng - riding the trend and soaring together. It vividly mirrors the spirit of the APEC - 21 diverse but interdependent member economies working cooperatively together.
